Threes
The friendly low-score game, also called Tripps. Keep at least one die each throw and roll the rest, chasing the lowest total, because here a three is worth nothing at all. Lowest total over 3 rounds wins.
One link, live dice, up to six players.
How to play Threes
- Throw all 5 dice.
- Set aside at least one die, then throw the rest again.
- Keep going until every die is set aside. You must keep at least one each throw.
- Your score is the sum of the dice you kept, but a three counts as zero. So threes are the best thing you can keep, and low dice beat high ones.
- Lowest total over 3 rounds wins. A perfect turn of five threes scores zero.
A little strategy
The tension is when to settle. A three is a free zero, so keep every three you throw. Ones and twos are cheap and worth keeping too. Fours, fives and sixes are the dice to throw again, hoping for a three, but every throw has to keep something, so a bad run can force you to hang on to a high die. The computer keeps all threes, ones and twos, and otherwise holds only its single lowest die, a solid line you can beat with a little luck.
